For those of you who know me pretty well, you know that my go-to girl is Lauren Kraft. This is just a little appreciation post about my best friend who gets me through the best and worst of times. I think she’s pretty awesome!
I don’t even know where to start with this crazy human! We’ve been best friends for about 12 years and with that has come endless laughs, arguments, road trips, dance parties, sleepovers, jam sessions, and adventures.
She truly is like a sister to me. We fight and argue all the time but it’s never to the point where it has effected our friendship. Usually the arguments last about an hour at the longest and then we just forget anything even happened. My favorite fight was from middle school. Lauren wanted to borrow a sweatshirt of mine but I had just gotten it and I did not want her to wear it. She ended up freaking out at me and I got mad and went to watch t.v. while she sat in my room. Twenty minutes later everything was fine. Another one of our most recent fights was when we decided to volunteer as Servant Companions at the ELCA youth gathering in Detroit, Michigan. About 30,000 youth and leaders gather every four years in a big city that needs some willing youth to do God’s work and show some love to the city. For Lauren and I, being Servant Companions and leading 80+ people a day to do volunteer work in the big city became an extremely stressful and emotional week. We were going to go out to eat one night and I didn’t think we had enough time and Lauren did. Basically it ended in Lauren standing in an elevator and me outside of it yelling at each other in front of people and in the end I stormed off and didn’t go with her to eat. Two hours later we saw each other and hugged and moved on.
To find a best friend like Lauren, I think, is a rare thing. She is such a loyal and caring friend. She is crazy and weird but she knows how to be serious… sometimes. 😉 She is the first person I think about when something exciting happens. She always has great advice and wants to know what is going on in my life. She is so supportive. The best part… having someone to sit on the couch with every night to watch t.v. and do nothing. That’s probably what I miss most when she’s gone for school. And our epic jam sessions in the car. No one belts out For the First Time in Forever Reprise from Frozen like we do. 🙂
One of the reasons why I think Lauren and I have been best friends for so long is because we are very different in some ways. Lauren always wants to do crazy, risky things and I am always right there telling her how it isn’t a good idea. Any mission trip, road trip, or whatever we’re doing with our other friends, I am considered Lauren’s “mom”. Always taking care of her and making sure she doesn’t get into trouble. But thats what I need in my life… Someone like Lauren to add some fun and make me take risks every once in a while. She reminds me to not take life so seriously all the time and I remind her sometimes that we aren’t 10 anymore. 😉
No one has ever made me laugh more than Lauren. Once you get us laughing, we can’t stop. Most of the time when we think something is really funny we sit there in silence laughing, which makes us laugh even more. Btw we both don’t really make any sounds when we are laughing really hard. 🙂
Many of our laughs and best memories come from traveling all around the nation together. We’ve been all over the place together. From Washington D.C. to Washington state to Colorado 🙂 and Florida. Plus many other places… It is so much fun to travel with your best friend and experience new things together. No matter where we are, she isn’t afraid to be loud and her crazy self. 🙂 A couple summers ago we were in Seattle for a mission trip and went to a Mariners baseball game. Lauren instantly made friends with the drunk guys behind us and the middle aged women that were very drunk also. By the end of the night she had all of them throwing up the three finger salute (what is the actual name for that??) from Hunger Games and taking selfies with them. You make new friends everywhere you go with that girl. Anytime we go to a baseball game together, we always get the little ice cream in the baseball cap to remember all the games we’ve been together because every mission trip or trip we’ve been on, we have gone to a baseball game. I could go on for hours about the crazy things we’ve done while going on adventures, like getting lost in D.C. trying to find the Holocaust museum, but I won’t.
I know that Lauren and I will forever be friends. No matter how much time goes by without seeing each other, we pick up right where we left off. We always make time for each other when we’re busy with school to catch up. I honestly don’t know where I would be if I didn’t have Lauren. She has gotten me through so much in life and stuck by my side through it all. I am so proud of all she has accomplished in life and I am so glad that I have her to walk along side in our faith journey. Thank you for being the most genuine best friend, Lauren. I can’t wait to see where life takes you and grow in our friendship as we grow older. In the meantime, I can’t wait to spend spring break hanging out with you in California.
If I could give any advice about true friendship, I would say find someone like Lauren. Find someone who is hilarious, weird, supportive, careless in life, lazy :), someone who is always there for you, and tells you when you’re doing life wrong. They don’t have to say much in bad times, but knowing they are there to support you, is all you need sometimes.
Thank you for everything you don’t do or do 😉 Love you always my gurf. ❤
